My thoughts are torn between the reasons why I like the novel study being done this way, and why i didn't. I liked it being done this way because it not only teaches you responsibility, but discipline. We had a whole class for a long time unsupervised; a lot of stuff could have been done other than the novel study. I believe it is a good exercise to push and prepare yourself for University. Lots of things in life you actually have to go out and do yourself, you don't have a teacher pushing you to finish. I really enjoyed the project I think it benefitted the people who actually did their work and got things done early. You had time to do other homework and really treat yourself instead of those people who started goofing off, then having to cram. I also love this assignment because of the group work, I love to socialize and really get a point of view from other members. If you read and discuss the questions you have together, it gives you a better understanding of the book. I personally have way more good things to say then bad. Which leads me to why I did not like this assignment.
The Reasons why I didn’t like the assignment are it was hard to stay on task, times you found yourself talking about things you shouldn’t be. Also the fact that you need to pick your group members wisely, it really does suck when you have members who are not prepared or do not show up. It ruins almost everything you had planned to do for that day. Also I believe at times even being determined as you are. It was hard to stay focused with the amount of freedom you had, especially for a student who struggles with comprehending by themselves.
